Rob Wiethoff
Rob Wiethoff is an American actor best known as the voice and motion capture performer for John Marston in the iconic Red Dead Redemption video game series. His authentic portrayal of the character earned critical acclaim, and Marston himself became one of the most memorable figures in gaming history.
Pursuing an acting career, Wiethoff moved to Los Angeles but struggled to land significant roles, working as a bartender to make ends meet. His breakthrough came in 2008 when he was invited to audition for a mysterious video game project. Initially skeptical about his chances, he was soon informed that he had been chosen for the lead role.
Filming began at Rockstar Games in 2009, and when Red Dead Redemption was released in 2010, it became a massive success. Wiethoff’s performance as John Marston earned him the Outstanding Character Performance award at the AIAS Awards, often referred to as the “Oscars of video games.” In Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018), he reprised his role, and the game remains one of the most popular titles to date, surpassing 70 million copies sold.
Wiethoff actively engages with Red Dead Redemption fans and frequently attends events worldwide. On May 24–25, 2025, he will be appearing at the Comic Con Baltics 2025 festival in Vilnius, where he will be joined by Roger Clark, the voice of Arthur Morgan. This will be a rare opportunity for fans to meet both legendary actors on the same stage.
