Luis Coelho – purr.in.ink

Luis’s journey into creating purr.in.ink began with a simple question posed to his young nieces:

What animals would they like as spirit protectors in their dreams?

What started as a playful game turned into childlike illustrations, initially featuring various animals. Over time, his focus shifted entirely to cats, which quickly became the most beloved part of his work online. Soon, the cats began to ‘talk,’ transforming his work into comics where they often speak directly to the viewer—sometimes delivering wholesome messages, other times offering humorous feline perspectives, or simply reflecting on life in general.

Luis combines traditional pen drawings with digital painting, blending the charm of hand-drawn characters and textures in black ink with vibrant digital colors.

With nearly 2 million followers across various platforms, his debut book, The Book of Purrs, will be published by Andrews McMeel Publishing in October 2024.
