Joffrey from “Game of Thrones” – the most hated character of all time is coming to Vilnius
From May 23–25, 2025, the “Comic Con Baltics” next-generation entertainment festival in Vilnius will offer a unique opportunity for all “Game of Thrones” fans to meet Jack Gleeson – the actor who portrayed the ruthless Joffrey Baratheon. “Game of Thrones,” an adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s book series, has become a global phenomenon, showcasing complex and brutal dynastic intrigues and battles. Joffrey, one of the series’ most infamous characters, is considered the most hated character of all time due to his sadistic actions and unpredictable behavior.
Although Joffrey Baratheon was one of the most despised characters in “Game of Thrones,” Jack Gleeson continues to receive plenty of positive reactions from fans. The actor explains that people understand his work and separate the character from reality. “People sometimes joke that they hated Joffrey but really missed him after the character’s death,” he shared.
It was precisely this role that earned Gleeson international recognition and made him a true pop culture icon. During the “Comic Con Baltics” festival, attendees will have the chance to learn how this complex character was created and hear fascinating behind-the-scenes stories from the series.
Life after “Game of Thrones”
Despite the popularity he gained from the series, Jack openly speaks about how acting, once it becomes a profession, can feel mechanical and less enjoyable. “When it became a job rather than a hobby, I felt the passion for this profession faded. However, working with amazing actors and the creative team made up for it,” he said.
After finishing his work on “Game of Thrones,” Gleeson decided to step back from the big stage and focus on his studies. He later founded the theater company “Collapsing Horse,” becoming involved in play creation, directing, and organizational work. He studied theology and ancient Hebrew in Dublin. Although he regularly receives various offers, the actor remains undecided about his future steps in his acting career.
