From Rufio to Prince Zuko: Pop Culture Icon Dante Basco Is Coming to Vilnius

The next-generation entertainment festival “Comic Con Baltics 2027 sponsored by Samsung”, taking place in Vilnius on 3–5 September 2027, has announced another festival guest. American actor, voice actor and producer Dante Basco will be visiting Lithuania for the first time. He is best known for his role as Rufio in Steven Spielberg’s “Hook” and for voicing Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation in the animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender”.

The Legendary Rufio: A Role That Became an Unforgettable Symbol of the 90s

Dante Basco rose to international fame as a teenager when, in 1991, he played Rufio, the leader of the Lost Boys, in Steven Spielberg’s “Hook”. With his distinctive red mohawk, fighting spirit and legendary battle cry, the character instantly became a pop culture icon. Appearing alongside such Hollywood legends as Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman, D. Basco showcased his exceptional charisma and was nominated for a Young Artist Award for his performance.

Unique Voice Acting Skills and the Cult Favourite Prince Zuko

Another major chapter in the actor’s career came through animation and voice acting, allowing D. Basco to express himself in a different way – creating characters through his voice alone. The greatest achievement of this period was voicing Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation in the cult animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Zuko is a complex and constantly evolving character: initially driven by anger, revenge and a desire to regain his father’s approval, he gradually confronts his family legacy and his own doubts, eventually learning to choose for himself who he wants to be. D. Basco’s voice brought this inner transformation to life, making Zuko one of the series’ most memorable characters.

The actor later returned to this universe, voicing General Iroh II in the series “The Legend of Korra”. He also played the lead role in the Disney series “American Dragon: Jake Long” and voiced characters in the video game “Mortal Kombat X”.

A Multi-Talented Artist and Creator Beyond the Screen

D. Basco’s creative work extends far beyond acting and recording studios. The actor is an active slam poet, writer and producer. He documented his experiences and journey through the entertainment industry in his memoir “From Rufio to Zuko”, in which he openly discusses life in Hollywood, professional challenges and the representation of Asian Americans in the entertainment industry.

“Comic Con Baltics 2027 sponsored by Samsung” is a next-generation entertainment festival now entering its ninth year. Each year, it brings creators and actors from iconic films, series, books, comics and video games to Vilnius. From 3–5 September 2027, visitors will be able to try out the latest video games, as well as titles that have already become cult favourites, and play alongside some of the most popular influencers in the “Baltics Gaming Expo” area.

The “Meet Lithuanian Film Industry” programme will feature meetings with Lithuanian filmmakers and presentations of the latest films. The festival will also host its now-traditional international Cosplay and K-Pop dance competitions. The youngest festival visitors will have a dedicated “Family Area”.
